$20 Medical Cannabis Card Online in East Honolulu

East Honolulu residents may come across websites advertising online medical cannabis services for approximately $20. That advertised amount should not be confused with the complete cost of obtaining a Hawaiʻi 329 registration.

Hawaiʻi currently charges $38.50 for a new one-year registration, consisting of the $35 DOH fee and the $3.50 administrative charge. In addition, the applicant must receive medical cannabis certification from an eligible physician or APRN.

The provider-patient relationship needed for certification may be established through a qualifying telehealth visit. However, a patient cannot satisfy Hawaiʻi’s medical certification requirements merely by completing an online questionnaire. The provider must individually evaluate the patient, consider relevant medical history, and fulfill the requirements of a bona fide provider-patient relationship.

After the medical evaluation, the patient completes the official registry application and forwards it to the medical provider for certification. DOH reviews the completed submission and issues the 329 registration after approval.

Hawaiʻi also regulates the amount a provider may charge specifically for medical cannabis certification. A one-year certification evaluation and issuance of certification may cost no more than $105.

Accordingly, a $20 advertisement should generally be viewed as a promotional or partial service price rather than the total cost of becoming a registered medical cannabis patient in East Honolulu. State registration and proper medical certification are still required.
